After 7 years of total flying time and 2 years of flying small charter planes and teaching people how to fly, Zach decided that he is ready to move on to the commercial airline industry and recently applied to Express Jet (a small regional daughter airline of Continental) and Skywest Airlines (a small regional daughter airline of Delta and United). He had his first interview on November 19th at the Skywest base in Salt Lake. After a full day of interviews and aptitude tests the Skywest people told him not to expect to hear whether he got the job or not for 5-10 business days. We spent the rest of the week in Utah for Thanksgiving and when we got home there was a package waiting for him from Skywest (postmarked the DAY of his interview) offering him a job! He decided to go to his interview at Express Jet in Houston and see how that one went before he accecpted the Skywest position. He left for Houston for his Express Jet interview at about 4:30 in the morning on November 27th, had a full day of traveling and interviews and before he even left Houston they also offered him a job! He applied to 2 airlines and got 2 offers! Not to brag, but he's pretty much the smartest guy I know : ) After a lot of thought and discussion, Zach has decided to take the job at Skywest. It's a BIG decision, but it's one that we both feel great about! We are hoping that he'll be based out of either Salt Lake or Portland, so it will be easy for him to commute back and forth from Seattle. We're so excited for all the changes, but it will also bring on a lot of new challenges, the biggest of which will be Zach's travel schedule. We'll have to spend about a month or two apart initially and, of course, the schedule only gets better with time. At least we'll both be able to fly for free, so it shouldn't be too hard to visit!
